We believe in using ingredients that are sustainable and have made it a passion of not only our bath and body product business but our farm as well.  We take a lot of pride in giving back to this world and recycling whenever possible.  Below you will find a list of our commonly used ingredients to include the benefits and why we have chosen them. If you ever have any questions about our ingredients please don’t hesitate to contact us. If you believe there is another ingredient we use frequently and it should be showcased here in the Goat-a-Pedia, please let us know.

There are so many benefits of goat’s milk, we will do our best to pack them all into this little paragraph. The pH of goat’s milk is about the closest you are going to get to humans. The actual fat molecules in goat’s milk essentially contain anti-inflammatory properties. The lactic acids do an incredible job of cleansing your skin and the fatty acids hydrate and moisturize your skin. Thanks to all of the vitamin A in goat’s milk it can have restorative properties to brighten your skin as well. In addition to all of the goodness above, goat’s milk contains something called alpha-hydroxy acids that are known to encourage the growth of new skin cells, repair damage skin, and to help pH balance your skin naturally.  It is no wonder with all of these benefits that goat milk bath products have become known for treating ailments such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis.

Do you wonder where we source this ingredient? Right here on our farm with our very own hands.  Yes that is right! We actually raise our own goats as if they were our children. I promise you will not find more spoiled goats than ours.  We feed our goats fresh alfalfa hay, a mixture of sweet feed and grain, and of course treats. If you have not heard about the treat obsession on our farm please check out The Herd

If you haven’t been convinced of the benefits of goat milk in your bathing routine, we hope we can convince you to give a bar of soap a try. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose!

Did you know that olive oil is rich in monounsaturated fat, also know as oleic acid? Studies of the benefits of oleic acid suggests that it reduces inflammation.  Olive oil is also full of incredible antioxidants that suggest anti-aging and skin repair. This oil makes our soaps mild and can aid in the reduction of symptoms of eczema and psoriasis. Olive oil makes our bars of soap hard but still have a creamy lather. Our source of olive oil is right here in the USA but hopefully in a few years, we will be our own source of olive oil. If you want to read more about our olive farm, please see our about page.

This oil adds a skin conditioning property that is difficult to create in a bar of soap with any other vegetable or plant oil. The fatty acids and vitamin E in sunflower oil make it a great emollient for your skin hydration needs. Our source of sunflower oil is right here in the USA.

This is another one of those ingredients that has too many benefits to list them all here.  Shea butter is very nourishing and moisturizing for your skin.  It is known to have many uses such as reduction of blemishes, reducing skin inflammation, relief for itchy skin, and skin elasticity restoration just to name a few.  It does all of these amazing things for your skin because of the highly concentrated vitamins and fatty acids that include linoleic and oleic acids.  Also no worries about our sourcing, we responsibly source all of our shea butter to ensure fair trade for the villages and people involved in processing this glorious ingredient.

Did you know that coconut oil is anti-bacterial & anti-fungal?? It is also a great cleanser but in soap it is the ingredient that makes the bubbles. Coconut oil, like many of the other plant based oils we use, is high in fatty acids and antioxidants that can assist in alleviating the symptoms of damaged skin, acne, and fungus.

This is a clay that we use in not only our goat milk face masks but every single bar of goat milk soap.  The benefits of bentonite clay in our soap is it allows for a better “slip” meaning it makes for a great shaving soap.  In our dry face masks it can detoxify your skin, treat oily skin, and reduce symptoms of acne.

We use arrowroot powder in place of another ingredient, corn starch.  We have chosen arrowroot powder because it absorbs moisture more efficiently. Also, it is next to impossible to find corn starch that has not been touched by the GMO industry.  We use arrowroot as our primary ingredient in our natural deodorants but in our bath bombs as well. Our arrowroot powder is sourced from right here in the USA.

Fragrances

Fragrances used in our products have been through rigorous testing and are special ordered just for you.  All of the fragrances used at Olive Drab Farm are phthalate free.  This is important to us as we have found we are personally allergic to fragrances that do contain phthalates. Tamara personally has never been able to use commercial bathing products due to the phthalates in the fragrances. Finding scents that do not contain them was challenging at first but we succeeded and now Tamara can take luxurious baths just like everyone else!
